LRT-1 Cavite Extension undergoes inspection ahead of opening

The long-delayed LRT-1 Cavite South Extension is slated to open in the fourth quarter of this year. As such, the Department of Transportation, the Light Rail Transit Authority, and the Light Rail Manila Corporation have conducted a high-level inspection at the Dr. Arcadio Santos Station in Parañaque City.

The LRT-1 South Extension boasts the latest state-of-the-art and PWD/senior-friendly facilities at all its stations.

These include elevators and escalators at both northbound and southbound sides of the station platforms, detectable surface flooring for visually impaired passengers, real-time passenger information systems, and even breastfeeding rooms for mothers.

The Dr. A. Santos Station in particular is expected to be a major transport hub. Thus, the station will have dedicated loading bays for a wide array of vehicles (PUV, private, and even PWD-specific loading/unloading bays).

Once completed, the 32.4km LRT-1 South Extension is expected to reduce travel time from Baclaran (the line’s current terminus) to Bacoor in Cavite from the current average of 70 minutes down to 25 minutes.

It will also boost the total capacity of the LRT-1 from the existing 500,000 daily commuters to 800,000, offering increased accessibility to and from the LRT-1 thanks to the eight additional stations in Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, and Bacoor.
