PNR, LRT2 & MRT giving free rides to veterans

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) offers free rides to all Filipino military veterans in observance of Philippine Veterans Week and Day of Valor (Araw ng Kagitingan) on April 5 (Holy Wednesday), and on April 10 to 12.

The military veterans need to present their valid Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO) identification cards to avail of the free rides at the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2), Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3), and the Philippine National Railways (PNR).

At the MRT-3, the management allows military veterans to bring one companion to avail free train rides on the same given dates.

The LRT-2, MRT-3 and PNR will halt operations from Maundy Thursday to Easter Sunday, April 6 to 9, to give way for maintenance activities.

They will resume normal operations on April 10, Monday.

In an advisory, Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) Administrator Atty. Hernando Cabrera said the four-day shutdown will give the LRTA “enough time to conduct thorough maintenance on LRT-2 trains, station facilities and equipment to ensure the system’s reliability and safety.”

“We normally take advantage of the Holy Week to perform our yearly maintenance activities. With this, we appeal for understanding from the riding public and request that they plan their trip and take alternative transportation during this period,” Cabrera explained.

Regular operations at the MRT-3 will resume with the first trip from North Avenue Station at 4:36 am and from Taft Avenue Station at 5:18 am.

The PNR management also noted that maintenance and repair activities on its trains and tracks were scheduled over the Holy Week break so as not to affect daily commute.
