Hotel JEN Manila by Shangri-La shutting down

The 308-room Hotel JEN Manila along Roxas Boulevard, part of Shangri-La group’s mid-range hotel chain, is shutting down operations starting Sept. 1 as part of the property owner’s “redevelopment plans.”

In a statement on Monday, New Riviera Hotel Development Corp., owner of the hotel building in Pasay, announced that the hotel would continue to honor reservations made up to end-August this year.

The property, which is located near the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas complex and across the Cultural Central of the Philippines, operated as Traders Hotel, and then under the JEN Manila by Shangri-La brand since 1995.

JEN Manila said every effort was being made to support all affected staff members through this transition, including the provision of a “fair compensation package and extension of healthcare insurance coverage” until Dec. 31 this year.

“We would like to thank all our guests, partners, colleagues for their unwavering support over the past 27 years, particularly during the challenging pandemic years,” it said.

“We look forward to extending our trademark Asian hospitality to guests at our four other Shangri-La properties in the Philippines,” the group said.

Shangri-La currently operates luxury hotels in BGC, Cebu, Ortigas and Boracay. The Makati property was also closed in 2021 amid the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, but the group said this would only be “temporary.
