The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and Spain-based design consultant IDOM Consulting Engineering, Architecture, SA, (IDOM) are scheduled to sign the P1.4 billion ($28.967 million) contract for the detailed architectural and engineering design of the Metro Rail Transit Line 4 (MRT-4) Friday, October 1 2021.
Funded by an official development assistance (ODA) from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the MRT-4 mass-transit system will link the eastern part of Metro Manila, including the highly-populated areas of the province of Rizal.
The railway will cut across the cities of Mandaluyong, San Juan, Quezon, Pasig, and municipalities of Cainta and Taytay in Rizal, addressing the massive traffic problem and limited road capacities in the over-populated eastern part of the metropolis.
The projectβs design stage is slated in the 4th quarter of 2021, while the start of early works is scheduled for the 2nd quarter of 2022.
IDOM, the detailed architectural and engineering design consultant (DEDC), will prepare the railwayβs preliminary design, detailed engineering and tender designs, loan processing documents, financial and economical assessments, project/loan safeguards documents and bidding documents.
Under the agreement with DOTr, IDOM will likewise determine the proper mode of transportation along the alignment and provide the methodology on ridership validation.
The mobilization of the project started after the DOTr issued IDOM the Notice of Award this September 17.
