The Department of Transportation (DOTr) this morning (July 27, 2021) led the inauguration of the P801.8 million, 313-kilometer, Metro Manila Bike Lane Network at Roxas Boulevard, Manila.

Metro Manila’s bike lanes are part of the government’s P1.09 Billion Bayanihan Bike Lane Networks project covering 497-kilometers.Earlier, transport authorities inaugurated the bike lane networks of Metro Cebu and Metro Davao. In Metro Cebu, the government installed 129 kms of pavement markings, physical separators, and road signages for P150 million.
In Metro Davao, the DOTr installed 55 kms of pavement markings, physical separators, and road signages amounting to P145,369,391.
The DOTr implemented the project to promote active transportation as an additional mode of travel in the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Metro Manila Bike Lane was funded by the Bayanihan to Recover as One Act of 2020 or the Republic Act No. 11494.
“We intend to provide commuters with access to faster, and efficient means of mass transportation; and to open infrastructure for active transportation such as walking and cycling,” according to DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade.
