The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) on Monday convened its first-ever National Settlements and Urban Development Coordination Committee (NHSUDCC) to further boost synergy among government key shelter agencies (KSAs) and the private sector.
DHSUD Sec. Eduardo Del Rosario cited the importance of strengthening connections in attaining the common goal of providing decent and affordable housing to Filipino families—especially the underserved, sustainable communities, and having a vibrant housing sector.
“Let us continue working together and further cement stronger partnerships with our stakeholders. We must likewise continue providing unwavering public service in the housing and urban development sector,” Del Rosario said.
Ramping efforts
The forum highlighted key accomplishments of the KSAs during the first quarter of the year. Joining the housing czar were Undersecretary Zyril Carlos, Assistant Secretaries Mel Aradanas, Leira Buan and Avelino Tolentino III, as well as Planning Service Director Mylene Rivera.
Representatives from the following KSAs participated in the online key meeting: Home Mutual Development Fund or Pag-IBIG Fund, the National Housing Authority (NHA), Social Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC) and the National Home Mortgage and Finance Corporation (NHMFC) plus the Human Settlements Adjudication Commission (HSAC). KSAs presented their respective first-quarter accomplishment reports.
Sec. Del Rosario serves as the NHSUDCC chairperson with members including Pag-IBIG Fund CEO Acmad Rizaldy Moti, NHA General Manager Marcelino Escalada Jr, SHFC president Arnolfo Cabling, NHMFC president Carlo Luis Rabat and HSAC Executive Commissioner Melzar Galicia.
After the reports, Sec. Del Rosario lauded KSAs efforts in staying focused and on track with reaching targets in the midst of the pandemic. He continued to stress that unity and coordination are key to pursuing overall progress in the housing sector.
Among the NHSUDCC’s primary objectives are recommending policies and programs to the National Human Settlement Board, monitoring and evaluating functions of KSAs, facilitating harmonization of housing programs, and streamlining processes to eliminate overlaps.
