MANILA, Philippines— Those planning to leave Metro Manila to go to Tagaytay City will still have to secure a travel pass from the police, Joint Task Force COVID shield commander Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said Monday.
In a televised briefing, Eleazar said Tagaytay City only reopened its doors to tourists coming from within Cavite province. Tagaytay City is a popular tourist and holiday destination in Cavite.
“Ngayon po ‘yung sinasabi sa Tagaytay, while it is true na ang Tagaytay dineclare ng LGU (local government unit) nila na hindi na kailangan ang travel pass pagpasok doon, ‘yun po ‘yung manggagaling within Cavite,” Eleazar explained.
(While it is true that Tagaytay’s local government unit said there is no need for a travel pass to enter its jurisdiction, that’s only applicable to those residing within Cavite.)
“So ‘yung galing sa Metro Manila, pupunta ng Cavite, dapat po may reason kayo sa pagpunta doon. Kung hindi, dapat kukuha pa rin kayo ng travel authority,” he added.
(So those coming from Metro Manila going to Cavite, you need to have a valid reason for going there. If you don’t have any, you need to get travel authority.)
Metro Manila, where many COVID-19 infections are recorded, is still under general community quarantine (GCQ) while Cavite is under a more eased lockdown or modified GCQ.
Meanwhile, the government has started to gradually reopen the tourism sector by allowing “staycations” in GCQ areas.
