LRT-1 Cavite Extension project 40% complete

Although community quarantine is still in place, the Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) hss continued building its USD$1.25 billion, 11.7-kilometer LRT-1 Cavite Extension project.

Since the start of the civil works in September 2019, LRMC has completed 40% of the project aspects within its scope to date.

With the project now in full swing, LRMC is temporarily closing the southbound lane along CAVITEX  near the Paranaque bridge from September 15 until December 15, 2020.

This will allow Maynilad to relocate its pipes required for the construction in the area, a follow-through of the test pit works (bridge and pipe inspection) conducted in the same area four months ago.

To date, LRMC has completed the pre-cast yard and staging area and built bored piles – the deep foundational support, along the stretch up to Dr. Santos Station until Ninoy Aquino Avenue. 

The company is starting to construct piers – elevated structures, along Ninoy Aquino Avenue as well. 

 Jetty construction works along Paranaque river are almost halfway done, with bored piling works expected to begin soon in the same area.

The project also achieved another milestone with the installation of the first 2 pi-girders (chief horizontal support in a structure) in front of the pre-cast yard along C5 Extension, Las Pinas City. 

The Cavite Extension project makes use of an above-ground launcher, a special engineering method, to allow for faster execution and minimal effect on the ground-level traffic. The viaducts are transported above-ground instead of street-level.

“LRMC has been in close partnership with Maynilad and CAVITEX Infrastructure Corporation for the necessary activities to prepare the foundation for LRT-1 Cavite Extension (CEMT)” noted Project Execution Manager Reynaldo Pangilinan.

 “Despite the limitations brought by the quarantine period and the necessary adjustments, we have been able to make progress on this project,” he reiterated.

  “We also request for the continued understanding of all CAVITEX motorists, and advise them to plan their trips ahead,” Pangilinam hastened to add.

 “We are aware that this will bring temporary inconvenience. But once the project is completed, travel between Baclaran and Bacoor will be faster, easier, and more convenient for our commuters.”
