What pandemic?
Now, it can be told. The rumor early this year was true. The mansion in North Forbes Park of boxing champ and Senator Manny Pacquiao is up for sale, according to Presello website, the online portal for listings involving mansions with prices with so many zeroes it would make your head spin. The listed price? It’s just ₱1.5 billion. Definitely not for the house-hunting “budgetarians.”
Just in case you have ₱1.5 billion to spare, you are not shortchanged with the product labeled as “Zen-inspired luxury mansion.” More info is revealed on the site, such as the 2,000-square-meter lot, the four-car garage, five bedrooms, and seven bathrooms. And its location at a prime piece of Makati land, the luxe epicenter of the metro. Research into this property also reveals that the house was formerly owned by a prominent banker. It was designed by Architect Anton R. Mendoza. Budji+Royal Designs did the interiors.
Skeptics, however, are wary that this is the house of Pacquiao. But photos reveal otherwise, showing a room (more like a guest room) featuring portraits of the family and a huge framed photo of the boxing champ at the ring. The photo is classic Pacquiao, with his eyes looking above, the Philippine flag at his back, and surrounded by his boxing groupie.
There’s also that photo of a function room with a 20-seater wood table. Eagle-eyed netizens compared that same room with an event hosted by the Pacquiaos where a Covid-infected senator was seen mingling with guests a few days before the ECQ.
So why is it up for sale at this pandemic time? Are the Pacquiaos experiencing hard times, like us mortals? They are mum about the reason, but they are definitely not moving out because they need the extra money. Besides, they have houses and properties all over the country (and even abroad). Rumor has it that the Pacquiaos were “irked” when the village association and the barangay issued a “memo” asking them and their household staff to “stay indoors for 14 days” since they were exposed to a Covid-positive person (you know the culprit). They were also “fed up” with their neighbors who would frown upon their guests who would enter the village in tsinelas and basketball jerseys. But this is just all talk, with Manny “hinting” at these issues from time to time.
By the way, did we mention the cash windfall? If you had ₱1.5 billion, the Pacquiaos would earn at least a billion, as the purchase of that house-and-lot was estimated at half a billion a few years ago. But if you’re really a Pacquiao fan, awash with an insane amount of cash, and waiting for that opportunity to have the ultimate bragging rights, then this is your time to live—and feel—like a champion.
