The government is fast-tracking the upgrade of the P14 Billion Zamboanga International Airport (ZIA) and has rehabilitated 93.25 percent of its Passenger Terminal Building (PTB), the Department of Transportation (DOTr) today reported.
Mindanaoβs third busiest airport covers a total land area of 270 hectares and can be a regional hub as the aviation industry transitions to the βnew normalβ amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The ZIA is located in Zamboanga City, close to Dipolog Airport, while the nearest gateways to the Jolo Airport are the Zamboanga International Airport, Sanga-Sanga Airport, Ipil Airport, and the Pagadian Airport.
It serves as the gateway to one of Southeast Asiaβs fastest growing business and cultural hubs, and to the entire Western Mindanao area.
The improved grading of the runway strip, as well as its asphalt overlay of the runway, is 30.80 per cent completed.
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines operates ZIA, which handles around 6 million passengers.
