Nuvali strengthens eco-city visionwith dual BERDE 5-Star recognition

Nuvali continues to strengthen its position as one of the country’s leading sustainable urban estates after key districts within the Ayala Land development earned dual BERDE 5-Star certifications from the Philippine Green Building Council (PHILGBC).

The recognition marks a milestone not only for the sprawling Laguna estate but also for the local property sector, with Nuvali becoming the first commercial business district in the Philippines to be recognized under the BERDE Districts certification system.

The Lakeside and East Bloc districts received BERDE 5-Stars Certification under BERDE Districts Version 1.0.0 for both Stage 1 and Stage 2, highlighting the estate’s environmentally responsive planning and long-term sustainability initiatives.

For Ayala Land, the recognition reinforces years of work in transforming Nuvali into a master-planned community that balances urban growth with environmental stewardship.

Located in the fast-growing CALABARZON corridor, Nuvali has steadily evolved into a major economic and lifestyle hub outside Metro Manila. What was once envisioned as an eco-city in Southern Luzon has grown into a fully integrated estate combining residential communities, commercial centers, offices, schools, retail developments, leisure destinations, and open green spaces.

The estate’s continued growth reflects the increasing demand for more sustainable and livable urban communities beyond the capital.

At the center of the latest recognition are Nuvali’s Lakeside and East Bloc districts within the 200-hectare Metro Nuvali Central Business District.

Known for its expansive open spaces and leisure-oriented environment, the Lakeside District has become one of Nuvali’s most recognizable destinations. The area is anchored by recreational amenities, retail establishments, and its signature lakeside setting that attracts both residents and visitors from across the region.

Ayala Land is currently redeveloping portions of the district, including a new connection to Ayala Malls Nuvali aimed at creating a more seamless lifestyle experience within the estate’s growing super regional mall destination. The redevelopment is expected to be completed by the fourth quarter.

Meanwhile, East Bloc continues to emerge as a commercial and business hub designed to support modern urban living, mobility, and commerce in Southern Luzon.

Both districts were recognized for incorporating sustainability measures such as walkability, green open spaces, resilient infrastructure, sustainable land use, water management systems, and integrated mobility networks.

“Receiving the BERDE 5-Stars Certification under BERDE Districts for both Lakeside and East Bloc reflects our commitment to building sustainable and future-ready communities that create long-term value for residents, businesses, and stakeholders,” said Gilbert Ramos, senior project development manager of Ayala Land Estates Inc.

Developed by PHILGBC, BERDE or Building for Ecologically Responsive Design Excellence serves as the country’s primary green building certification system. It evaluates developments based on environmental performance standards that go beyond existing building regulations and mandatory green requirements.

“By achieving BERDE certifications in Nuvali, Lakeside Evozone, and East Bloc, the project demonstrated its commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship,” said Rowena Ramos, vice chair of the PHILGBC Board of Trustees.

Nuvali’s expansion also continues beyond sustainability initiatives. The estate recently signed agreements for the development of the Nuvali Parish Church with the Archdiocese of San Pablo and for the establishment of a local government satellite office with the City Government of Sta. Rosa.
