PUEBLO DE ORO Development Corporation (PDO), the property development arm of the ICCP Group, has achieved Preliminary EDGE (Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies) certification for its Westwoods Storeys project in Barangay Carmen, Cagayan De Oro City. This is the second EDGE certification for the developer.
Westwoods Storeys is a low-density, medium-rise condominium with seven-floor buildings that offer studio and 2-bedroom units. The development offers a total of 989 units in a 5.2-hectare land. It is 3.9 kilometers from the Pueblo de Oro Business Park.
The project is a forest-inspired condominium where residents can enjoy the comforts of modern living every single day while appreciating sustainability. These include such features as large windows that provide natural light, nature trails under green foliage, rain gardens, and pocket greenscapes.
According to the Philippine Green Building Initiative (PGBI), which awarded the preliminary certification, the resource-efficient design of Westwoods Storeys will result in reductions of 28% in energy, 27% in water, and 32% in materials’ embodied energy compared to a local base case.
The assessment of PGBI was based on the Birch Tower – the first of seven similarly designed buildings in the condominium complex.
In addition to the project’s sustainability features, passive design such as reduced window-to-wall ratio and reflective walls, among others, result in saving 1,050 kilowatt-hours (KWh) of energy per year. This is equivalent 90,516 smartphones charged.
Water-efficient fixtures and rainwater harvesting contribute to saving an estimated 9,405.70 cubic meters of water per year. This volume is equivalent to the water used in four Olympic-sized swimming pools. Additionally, the construction materials used in the project contribute to saving 697.28 metric tons of carbon dioxide (tCO₂e) per year or equivalent to 136 homes’ electricity for a year.
An innovation of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), EDGE is an internationally recognized certification system that awards resource-efficient building design. It focuses purely on resource efficiency. To reach the EDGE Standard, a building must achieve at least a 20 percent reduction in energy, water, and embodied energy in materials compared to a conventional building.
The latest EDGE Certification demonstrates Pueblo de Oro’s commitment to delivering the gold standard in community living through the creation of truly green and sustainable residences,
Previously, the developer was awarded preliminary EDGE certification by PGBI for the Pueblo De Oro Residences Malvar in its Townscapes Malvar township in the province of Batangas.
