The City Department of Engineering and Public Works (DEPW) will conduct a dredging and desilting operation tomorrow at the South Road Properties (SRP) to help mitigate flooding in the area.
This has been the city’s offered immediate solution after receiving reports from netizens about waist-deep floodwaters in an underground parking at the SRP following last Thursday night’s heavy downpour.
Vice Mayor Raymond Alvin N. Garcia, together with Filinvest Land Inc. and DEPW representatives met today to address the issue and collaboratively find a lasting solution.
Dredging is the removal of sediments and debris from the bottom of rivers, while desilting is the removal of fine sand and clay carried by running water.
“The city will further be discussing with the developer to jointly come up with our next steps,’ Garcia said.
“We are also looking for a long-term solution on this and we will give importance to the matter because this is also the directive of Mayor Mike Rama,” Garcia added.
Last Friday, August 5, the Mayor ordered the immediate clearing of the riverbanks or the removal of structures within the three-meter easement of waterways to avoid damage to properties and the loss of lives caused by overflowing rivers due to the heavy rains.
