Megawide secures more housing contracts

Tycoon Edgar Saavedra’s Megawide Construction Corp. secured more housing contracts from PHirst Park Homes, the affordable housing venture of Century Properties Group and Japan’s Mitsubishi Corp.

Through its precast and construction solutions (PCS) unit, Megawide will supply materials for the developer’s housing units inNaic, Cavite; Baliuag, Bulacan; Tayabas, Quezon.

“The challenge in addressing the country’s housing backlog is not in the supply but the speed in which we can build,” Markus Hennig, Megawide executive vice president, said in a statement.

“Our proprietary precast technology allows us to deliver cost-effective units with greater speed and efficiency than conventional methods,” he added.

The division continues to grow its precast order book amid strong demand for affordable homes.

Megawide, one of the country’s top engineering and construction firms, said it has 11 projects with PHirst Park Homes that span a total of about 19,000 units across Luzon.

The partnership was launched in 2018 and it has since turned over 9,000 homes to PHirst Park.

“Megawide’s advantage is this innovative precast methodology that we can easily replicate in other locations for other projects,” Hennig said.

Megawide’s main precast plant in Taytay, Rizal is the largest and most advanced factory in the Philippines and one of biggest in Southeast Asia. The plant can produce up to 168,000 cubic meters of precast units per year.

Apart from housing, the company is an active player in the infrastructure space.

New projects include the Malolos-Clark Railway Project Package 1 and CP-104 of the Metro Manila Subway project, which will begin construction this year.

Megawide said it is also keen on bidding for other railway projects to grow its transport infrastructure portfolio.
