The Manila City government has completed the construction of its Mega COVID-19 Field Hospital at Rizal Park’s Burnham Green in just 52 days, Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso announced on Friday.

The mayor expressed his gratitude to all the people behind the construction of the new hospital.

(To those who got dead nails, suffered burns, pierced with wire, pricked with plywood, hit with a hammer because you’re still working during the night, I want to share with you that we succeeded. We promised 60 days but we did it in just 52 days),” Domagoso said.

Maraming maraming maraming salamat! (You’re all part of this and you’ll also be part of the history of great Filipino workers. To all of you, please accept my utmost gratitude. Thank you very much),” he added.

The new hospital built on the 2.8-hectare Burnham Green will cater to mild and moderate cases of COVID-19.

It was built with modular containers that will feature inter-communication between patients and medical frontliners, internet connection, and will be air-conditioned.

All female and male patients and those with mild and moderate symptoms of COVID-19 will be separated.

According to the city government, around 150 frontline health workers will be deployed to the Manila Mega COVID-19 Field Hospital.

“Ang sabi natin, if China did it, if Italy did, Philippines can do it also,” Domagoso said.

The P154-million hospital was inspired by the emergency field hospitals set up in Italy at the height of the global COVID-19 crisis in March 2020.
