A helpful guide to essential cleaning supplies

These days, cleaning is no longer just a home chore. It has become a form of escape, stress relief, and therapy for many homeowners. Sometimes, nothing can be more gratifying than getting it all done before the clutter can get overwhelming: sweeping off the dust, wiping off countertops, or organizing your clothes in your closet.

Of course, having the right cleaning tools is a must to make sure your home is squeaky clean. No tool can do everything at once, so here’s a guide to the essential products.

Vacuum cleaner

A vacuum cleaner is your handy cleaning partner, especially if used correctly. It removes dust and dirt on various surfaces of your home. But if you want to clean hard-to-reach surfaces or you feel lazy, try getting a robot vacuum (or robovac) instead.

Broom and dustpan

A trusty, old broom and dustpan set removes dust, fur and other particles. It’s also a helpful tool if you’re looking for small items that are scattered in your home.

Rubber gloves

Do you remember street vendors selling brightly colored cloth when you’re waiting for the stoplight? It’s called a microfiber cleaning cloth which is gentle enough to clean all surfaces of your home. You can simply toss them into the washing machine when you’re done.

A sponge and scrubbing pad can do more than removing food stains off your dishes. It can also scrub off dirt and grime that’s hard-to-remove. Just make sure to rub the surface gently.

Glass cleaner

A glass cleaner comes with a formula that’s specially made for windows, mirrors, glass tables, and other glass furniture. It’s a handy cleaning essential since it removes stains and streaks, and it leaves a satisfying shine after.

Wood cleaner

Just like a glass cleaner, a wood cleaner can be used for cabinets, drawers, tables, and other wood furniture. This is also an important cleaning essential since an all-purpose cleaner and bleach can damage wooden surfaces.

Bleach

Bleach is an effective disinfectant that removes bacteria, viruses and harmful microorganisms. It also helps whiten your clothes and scrub the dirt off waterproof surfaces.

However, make sure to not use it on painted surfaces, silk, nylon, metals, and wool.

White vinegar

White vinegar is more than just a condiment and ingredient. It’s also a helpful cleaning tool that removes grease, mildew and hard-to-remove dirt. However, make sure to check if the surface you’re cleaning before applying.
