Hitting the beach doesn’t always have to mean getting on a plane and flying to one of the Philippines’ beautiful island destinations. There are already a lot of beach resorts near Metro Manila, which you can easily reach in a few hours by land. Playa La Caleta in Morong, Bataan, is about a three-hour drive away (or an hour by ferry).

The 100-hectare resort is located in a private cove with a one-kilometer beach strip surrounded by dense forests. The place has been around for a while, but their latest offering is a cluster of air-conditioned glamping tents that was launched in June 2019.

The family glamping tents, which can accommodate up to five people, are located by a scenic natural spring and lush forest views. The rooms have their own bathroom and shower, plush beddings, indoor dining set, toiletries, cabinets, mini refrigerator, and television

Other accommodation options at Playa La Caleta include glamping tents for two (P5,000), a beach loft for three (P4,000), and a tent with foldable mattress (P3,000 for two).

As an eco-tourism resort, Playa La Caleta boasts hiking trails for the adventurous traveler: the Miguelito Island Trail, which is an islet on the left side of the cove; and a waterfalls trail, which leads you to two waterfalls behind the resort. There are also bike trails: one is a 30-minute route by the river and the other is a one-hour ride from the highway to the beach. Sightings of sea turtles’ nests are common along the beach.

The cove also offers a number of water sports that you can try: body boarding, kayaking, sailing, skimboarding, stand-up paddleboarding, surfing, and wind surfing. Miguelito Island is perfect for snorkeling and cliff jumping.

Playa La Caleta is in Nagbalayong, Morong, Bataan. Rates start at P5,000. For more information, follow Playa La Caleta Bataan on Facebook.
